A voki is a talking avatar/cartoon figure that you can customise to resemble yourself or anyone else you may like. It allows communication through the created character by allowing you to add a voice with your choice of text. I think it is an effective tool for the following reasons:
- it is engaging and motivating
- the ability to customise in so many ways
- allows you to reach different learning styles
- allows for security protection by being able to communicate with people around the world without actually showing your face
- it is a fun and interesting way to introduce technology into the classroom
As far as setting one up goes, the process is easy (although time consuming because of all the choices) but uploading seemed to take a while to work out.....but then, practice makes perfect!
